1. What is granite?
Granite (comes from the Latin granum, a grain) – is a common and widely occurring type of intrusive, felsic, igneous rock.
Granite has a medium to coarse texture, occasionally with some individual crystals larger than the groundmass forming a rock known as porphyry. Granites can be pink to dark gray or even black, depending on their chemistry and mineralogy. Outcrops of granite tend to form tors, and rounded massifs. Granites sometimes occur in circular depressions surrounded by a range of hills, formed by the metamorphic aureole or hornfels.
Granite is nearly always massive (lacking internal structures), hard and tough, and therefore it has gained widespread use as a construction stone. The average density of granite is 2.75 g/cm3 and its viscosity at standard temperature and pressure is ~4.5 • 1019 Pa·s.
Mineral composition of granite:
- feldspar (acid plagioclase and kalifeldspath, mostly the last one) – 60-65 %;
- crystalline silica – 25-30%;
- mafic minerals (biotite, seldom protobase) – 5-10 %.
Granite is one of the most dens, firm and solid rocks. It is used in construction as a facing material. Besides, granite has low water absorption and high resistance to frost and soiling. This is why it is a n optimal material for inside and outside pavage. Yet you should keep in mind that such a room will have a slightly higher radiation background, so it is not recommended to revet habitable rooms with granite. Granite is also used in interior decoration for walls, staircases, making of tabletops and pillars. It is also used for making of monuments and for making of granite macadam.

2. What kinds of granite do you quarry?
We quarry two types of granite:
- “Gabbro” – a rather dark stone with impregnation of green (in our case) crystalline silica. It is used for streets pavage and facades finishing as well as for gravestones and interior decoration.
- “Evening Warsaw” – red stone of rich velvet colors with black impregnation.

3. What is a level of radiation of your granite?
According to the final report of State Gemology Center of Ukraine granite from Zhytomyr and Uman deposits corresponds the 1st class of radiation level, which is less than 370 Bk/kg and is allowed for inside and outside decoration.

5. What kinds of paving blocks there are and how durable is street floor covering made of granite?
Granite pavement – is a long-lasting and durable material, popular since the first paved roads in Ancient Rome. With granite paving blocks you can quickly make sustainable, relatively cheap and good-looking pavement. They could be not only roads where vehicles ride, but also garden footpaths or a patio near a cottage.
Block pavement will serve faithfully for many centuries! The main benefits of such a pavement are as follows:
- Resists mechanical loading, vibration, destructive influence of atmospheric phenomena and temperature cycles;
- does not absorb moisture, petrol, chemicals;
- easily conducts water, if the stones are laid with cement-free technology and do not need to adhere to exact gradient;
- easily assembles an disassembles in case a repair of underground utilities is needed;
- Incontestable environmental friendliness. Contrary to asphalt pavement, it is not included into cancer-inducting materials group.
- Needs virtually no repair. The upkeep of natural stone pavement is 7-8 times cheaper comparing to asphalt or concrete pavement.
Classical paving block – pitched-faced, sawn and pitched and sawn. The size of pitched cubes is, usually, 10õ10õ10 cm, 10õ10õ5 cm, 7õ7õ7 cm, 5õ5õ5 cm and others. In Europe, where pitched-faced stone is used for centuries, other numeric values are used – 4/6, 9/11/5, 6/8.
Paving blocks are laid in different ornaments: “fans”, “waves”, “chessboard” and others, with clearance of 10mm between the stones.
